Forum tomorrow night and Gold Cup Race Report
Excellent conditions for the first Gold Cup race last Saturday, 55 NM round Waiheke with a classic big westerly beat all the way home. Throw in the obligatory big squall at the bottom end and even some sunshine, classic spring race. Vodaphone took just 3 1/2 hours to get round the island for the gun. You don’t even need to take lunch with you. Nice to see Charleston on the start line, getting themselves organised for the summer. Taeping had a nice moment down the bottom in the squall and Exodus and This Way up battled it out for Exodus to finish just 30 seconds in front, after 55 miles. Handicap went to Exodus by just 8 seconds. TWU second, Taeping 3rd.
First Commodores Cup race this Saturday with a 1200 Start. We are excepting a big fleet for this series, with a complimentary meal afterwards in the Dinghy Locker.
First RNZYS Wed night race, next Wednesday. First away again, and there are new course this year so read the SI well. They have made some of the M course a bit longer. Lets have the M division again one of the largest. Last summer was very close.
As many people as possible are encouraged to attend. This is a significant issue for safety and looking after our boats. We have some excellent guest speakers who have offered to come to supplement the general discussion for the evening. We have Nick Lewis of Auckland Marine Services who has the gear and knows what to do to get you upright, we have Ron Allen Parker, head of communications at Coastguard , we have Stuart McKay of Cunningham Lindsay, a loss adjuster and surveyor engaged by Groupama to attend their upturned and damaged trimaran off Dunedin, with some very interesting footage. We also have a number club of members including Dan Slater and Bryce Freklington who can share their own experiences with us, and we will be welcoming input from everyone in a forum style discussion. Starts at 7.00 with a short prizegiving then we are into it.
