Drumbeat and Capricorn pulled the pin for the Parua Bay Rally as the NW forecast wasnt ideal. Capricorn will sail up Sunday/Monday to join the BOI race week now with 6 Boats confirmed, Fusion X, Exodus, This Way Up, Catabatic, Razzel and Capricorn.
The rest of the fleet got of to a good start this morning, Exodus going well with his new main and giving Line 7 a run for his money with TWU Pulse and Catabatic having a good battle for third place. the wind was a light westerly forecast to swing to NW 25 to 35 knots this afternoon/evening.

NOTICE OF RACE AND SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
OPEN TO MEMBERS OF ANY YACHT CLUB
1.0 Rules
1.1 The race will be governed by the rules as defined in the current Racing Rules of Sailing 2009-2012.
1.2 The YNZ Safety Regulations Part 2 Category 3 shall apply.
1.3 The International Regulations for preventing collisions as sea between the hours of sunset and sunrise will apply.
1.4 No boat shall discharge rubbish into the water.
2.0 Eligibility & Entry
2.1 The racing is open to multihull yachts 7.5 metres and over. The cruising rally is open to any multihull yacht.
2.2 A copy of the boat’s current and valid category 3 or higher, safety certificate shall be carried on board.
2.3 The entry fee shall be $15 to be collected at Parua Bay. Please notify Sam Tucker of your entry. By starting you are deemed to be accepting NZMYC’s terms of entry.
2.4 Entrants will be required to submit a declaration of their finish time. A representative will receive a declaration at Parua Bay.
3.0 Schedule of Events
3.1 Open division race start time 10am, Saturday 17 January 2009.
3.2 Cruising multihulls to arrive at Parua from any destination.
4.0 Racing Area
4.1 The racing area is coastal between Auckland and Parua Bay, Whangarei, starting at Orakei Wharf and finishing off Marsden Point.
4.2 Course to be sailed – The course will be from the start off Orakei Wharf, leaving Rangitoto Island to starboard, Tiritiri Martangi to starboard, Flat Rock to starboard and finishing off Marsden Point.
5.0 Scoring/Prizes
5.1 The Low Point System of Rules appendix A will apply.
5.2 Alternative penalties – Rule 4.2 shall apply.
5.3 Prizes will be awarded for the open division race fleet to the overall winner on line, and to the first, second and third places on NZMYC Club handicap.
5.4 Prizes will be awarded to the first three cruising multihulls to arrive at anytime after 1600.
5.5 There will be a prize for the boat who first lands a crew person ashore at Parua Bay not before 1300.
6.0 Notice to Competitors
6.1 Competitors will be contacted by phone or txt in the event of any changes to the sailing instructions, postponement, or in respect of any other notices. Please ensure Sam Tucker has a phone number for your boat.
6.2 If you start, and withdraw please let Sam Tucker know.
7.0 Start/Finish
7.1 The Start will take place on the water off the Orakei Wharf between the flag staff on the wharf and the permanently moored yellow Orakei buoy in a direction heading out of the harbour. The races will be started by a sound signal only from either a boat or from the end the Orakei Wharf. The sound signals will be :
7.2 Warning – five short sounds five minutes before starting signal.
7.3 Preparatory – one sound, four minutes before starting signal.
7.4 One minute before starting signal – one long sound.
7.5 Starting – one sound 0 minutes before starting signal.
7.6 This changes Rule 26.
7.7 At the finish – competitors shall take their own finish time when sailing past the Marsden Point light situated on Marsden Point when that light is bearing 230oM and whilst sailing into Whangarei Harbour.
8.0 Prizegiving
8.1 A social gathering and prizegiving will be held at the Parua Bay Hotel with the intention (subject to weather) of the prizegiving at 6pm.
9.0 Dinghies
9.1 Dinghies shall be carried above deck.
