Commodore's April Update
*We have the last race for the NZMHYC Summer programme this Sunday ,Its the Singlehanded race, last years was the first, with Dirty Deeds taking the double, so this year the trophy is up for grabs . Its a no extras race, start of Orakei wharf and Round Rangitoto to starboard, Motutapu then back to the Orakei Wharf Finish. 1100 start, come to the end of the wharf and watch the action. Test our your solo skills. Could you let me know if you would like to enter so we can circulate the details to you.
*Easter is the Auckland -Tauranga race for those keen to enjoy a good coastal race. Classic course, so get your entry in.
*First RNZYS Sat Winter race April 30 so not too long to get all those repairs done, and have a bit of a breather after a very active summer for the club. More details on the full winter programme to follow.
Good to see Tigre bought back from the Bay, and This Way Up is repaired and final touches being made to allow delivery back to Auckland shortly. Expecting to see Timberwolf back in the water soon, and looking very up to date and super fast, so there is going to be an excellent fleet for winter racing again. The SSANZ Simrad series has its first race July 16th.
Remember although you get Safety certificates now is a good to time just to go over all your safety gear, lifejackets Epirbs, radios etc. Excellent safety gear preparations saw the Deeds quickly recovered recently. We saw firsthand just how quickly they were able to establish immediate contact with coastguard with an accessible hand held VHF and from then on the situation was immediately under control.
