Commodore's Update 05/12/2011
*Wednesday series.
Last Wednesday there was an issue out there with Flax Mark going missing so the 8.5 race, along with the other divisions using this having their races abandoned . Apparently the harbour master is on to it and Flax Mark will be repositioned and time now. Conditions were lively and got an excellent and amusing report from This Way Up whose evening started off ominously with a broken oar on the way to the dinghy, a sign often its not going to be your day. Apparently it got worse after that. So far the Wed Series going well and we have a combined multihull entered of 18. 10 in the 8.5 and 8 open, which makes us collectively the third biggest fleet, and more to come. So far on Open Line we have Taeping 1st, Team Vodafone Sailing 2nd and Timberwolf third, and on handicap Teaping 1st, Timberwolf 2nd and This Way Up 3rd. In the 8.5 on line we have Attitidue 1st, Whio 2nd and Epsom Salts 3rd. On Handicap we have Attitude 1st, Whio 2nd and Creepy Crawler 3rd. These are the boats to beat, but especially Attitude and Taeping currently taking out the double.
* Highlight coming up is the Pier Party , next Wednesday 14 December, the unofficial last club night and multi gathering for 2012. Always a great night, sausages on the go, usual place at the dinghy racks end of WXY after racing.
*Remember Bay week end of January, more racing than ever and the beach party. Epic event.
*Bit of boatbuilding, painting etc going on down in the retro multi corner, aka the Landing for those interested . Very fine looking new trimaran in the 8.5 section at Westhaven , and if you want to buy an SL33, see the advert in Seahorse. Rumours of a good looking 42ft racing tri for sale at a good price in the US,( act now while the rates are good!)New rig going into Exodus shortly, so back out there in the fleet not soon enough, and if you get a chance google “carbon3” and check out the high wind video.
*We held a small function to thank the Coastal Classic divisional sponsors, which was very enjoyable and its important we have some really good long term sponsors such as we have, and hope to build on that for next years Coastal. Great to have such good coverage on Simons new record and the race in Boating NZ, and watch out for an upcoming feature on the 8.5 class.
Finally our thoughts to all the team at Hall Spars, who as reported experienced a tragic workplace accident last week . That must be a very hard time for them all and a very sad situation to deal with.
