Commodore Update 17-Aug
The SSANZ series going well, and some very close finishes being experienced. See the results on their website for how close some boats are finishing. So far its been a great series for the boats finishing near the end, so well done, Hyper showing some improved speed all around for sure. The last race , SSANZ 100 , which has a higher level of safety requirement , is on September 10th. Make sure you all book in for the series prize giving as well, always a popular evening and some good prizes going.
The singlehanded race( rescheduled from Summer) is on Sunday 18th September. Increasingly popular event, make sure you enter via Steve. Good chance to see if your tactics are any good without your crew. Nice trophy at stake, and generally followed by a gathering in Swashies. Safety is the key, as always, so there is a date in spare the following weekend if the 18th looks unsuitable.
The 2011 Coastal Classic website has gone live, great effort by the race team, and entries starting to come in. We do not have a big advertising budget this year so make sure you mention it widely and encourage people to enter on line. Lots of interest still, despite the RWC, and anyway plenty of chance to do the race and see the final. What a weekend!
Next Club night August 25 again promises to be really interesting Brett Bakewell -White will talk on the AC45 series currently underway in Europe and his involvement with White Tiger Challenge. What a great chance to get the latest on the AC45 series. Who saw the series summary on the TV last night? Club nights start about 7.00 pm onwards for a drink in the members bar with the speaker starting about 7.30.
Rum Race on Friday ( great turn up at the club last time) and next RNZYS race this Saturday.
