Commodore Update 29-Apr
Ist RNZYS Winter race tomorrow, looks like could be good conditions. Make sure you have entered and enjoy the series.
Singlehanded race. There is good interest and some skippers pretty to keen to sharpen their skills but unfortunately most of the entrants are unable to make this Sunday. We would rather run it when we have min 6/7 boats obviously so this Sunday will be postponed to a date to refixed.
Thanks for a very interesting presentation at the Club night last night by Peter Hustler. He has some very good experience at sailing his Turrisimo offshore which he was able to pass on, as well as the joys and adventures of cruising in New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Australia. Doing the miles in an open deck cat has its own challenges and Peter has some very good information and experience to pass on, especially regarding safety at sea.
Nitro is on its way from New Plymouth to be in Auckland for the start of the Fiji Race. Look out for this fine looking Chamberlain Cat and welcome to the team. Be good to have a few of us out there at the start of the race to send the multihull entries them on their way.
A reminder to check your CO2 inflating lifejackets. You can manually blow them up to check for leaks, but also have the cylinders serviced.
Happened to be out there on Tuesday to watch the start of an AC45 fleet race. Interesting at the start for sure , 70ft in the big bay breeze will be a challenge. Watch for the on the water umpires now riding jetskis to keep up with the action.
Next Club night is the summer prizegiving, so put it in your diaries. May 26.
