Courses and Pier Party

As mentioned previously the Race Committee have reviewed the prescribed courses for rum racing and RNZYS Wednesday nights. We have sailed the last two seasons with A division courses. This summer different courses have been tried, for the weekend races they have worked well, but the overall view is that the new M courses are too long for the Rum Race and for Wednesday night. The imperative is to have a result for the whole fleet within a reasonable time. Last week highlighted that, even though it was agreed in hindsight the course selected was too long for most of the divisions.
On balance therefore it appears mostly the A division course will be appropriate to allow this so an amendment will be made to the SI for the Wednesday nights and Rum races, weekend courses will remain with the longer courses.
This will take effect for this Fridays’ Rum Race onwards. Please note that these changes take time to consider put in place and involve co ordination with the RNZYS Race committee as well so its important members realise that.
We will continue to look at courses, and its important we strike the right balance.

Last Wednesday was interesting and good to see Navigation lights working for the M division. The harbour master is watching! Good handicap result for Triple 888 going nicely in the light with another good handicap result for Team VodaphoneSailing( also gun) , with Charleston third. We had a very nice night sail, even though the puff ran out. I am not sure my wife believed we were actually still sailing as opposes to sitting on the mooring.

Great to see Rent out racing with the fleet, a very welcome addition to the 8.5 fleet. and what a stereo.

RNZYS Summer series race this Saturday. Harbour course. 1000 start of Westhaven, M division harbour course. Last one was a great ride.

Pier party. After the Wed night race Dec 15 will be a pier party. If we remember there might even be a barbeque, but there will be lots of stories and lies as we wrap up the pre Christmas wed night series. There is now only one logical venue for this event! The multihull “Aquarium” where if you have followed the news, you will see a porpoise for sure, possibly rent a boat, say things which are borderline, do the Charleston, and try and creep in the door when you get home late. Thats the venue

Remember Club night this Thursday is Chris Mitchell, a very well regarded rig engineer and well known to many of you. Your rig is your second most expensive asset, so you need to hear what Chris has to say. Last Club night for the year.

Hope you have all booked into Opua Marine for the BOI regatta. Lots of boats going up, and the feeder weekend will be alot of fun.

Also note we have arranged a start in the Anniversary day regatta this year in Auckland, so for those in Auckland you can join in the regatta. Details will be in the NOR.

There will be few boats away cruising as well in the Mahurangi area for the long weekend so we will keep you posted.
