March Race News - BMW Regatta

Te Kouma was fast and furious, held in a big northerly, it was some ride. This is a great course in most winds so aim to do it next year. There and back in an afternoon. Exodus just beat Dirty Deeds, with Lucifer coming in third. Probably the wettest ride we have ever had, with big beam seas at very high speeds. Better than being at home.

Last RNZYS Wednesday was interesting, with some tough calls to be made in a shifty breeze. Taeping showed the way into a big hole, so came out not so good. A good line win to Charleston, with Lucifer and Exodus behind, and a handicap win to Putiki Express with Voom and Whio behind. We have had 20 boats in the Wednesday series at various times, with 15 of those featuring in the handicap prizes and 8 in the line prizes, so there is a good spread in the results. Final race next week, followed by prizegiving so make sure you come back to the club.

Big showcase for the 8.5 fleet this weekend at the BMW series. A slightly diminished open fleet, including a few injuries, but a good sized 8.5 fleet, racing also for their National Championship prize. Its going to be all on with some close results recently. Worth getting out on your boat to cheer for your favourite. Watch the mark roundings for high speed crew work, especially watch the bottom end drop, that combination of slightly slow drop, and over sheeting of the main on the mark round up is always a crowd pleaser. Prize will be awarded at our club prizegiving for best 8.5 regatta photograph, which will also feature on the website. For a clue as to what is good, see the photo of the Deeds not long after the start of the Coastal. Submit entries by e mail if you can. All together multihulls make up over 25% of the entire BMW regatta entries. Nice work.

Round Rangitoto Race on March 26

Club Picnic 27th. Last chance for the summer to all get together on the beach .Lets get plenty of boats and especially the cruising boats, we want to see more of you all and would like to work on more combined events . There will be a Mark Foy race off Orakei featuring the snappy start work of Clive, starting 11.00 am, with a novel time procedure, details to follow.

Good luck, especially for the 8.5 fleet, in the BMW.
