Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions
New Zealand Multihull Yacht Club Single Handed Race
18 September 2011
The organising authority is the New Zealand Multihull Yacht Club, POBox 3337, Auckland.
1.0 Rules
1.1 The race will be governed bythe rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing 2009-2012. The Yachting NewZealand Safety Regulation Part 2 Category 4 shall apply. A boat shall notdischarge rubbish in the water. Between sunset and sunrise the international regulationsfor preventing collisions at sea 1976 will apply. The harbour regulations willalways apply.
2.0 Eligibilityin Entry
2.1 The race is open to all sailing multihullscomplying with the applicable safety category. Please email your intention toenter to steve@category1marine.co.nz or text or call 021 500571 with your boatname by no later than 5pm Saturday 17 September 2011.
3.0 Persons onBoard
3.1 Each boat shall be sailed byone person, who shall be the only person on board from the warning signal untilthe boat has finished.
4.0 Schedule ofRace
4.1 The race will commence at 1100Sunday 18 September 2011.
5.0 The Start
5.1 The start will be between theyellow Orakei harbour mark and the most northerly end of the Orakei wharf.Yachts shall start in an easterly direction.
5.2 There will be no flags ashore.Instead, at 10:55 a loud sound warning signal will be heard from on the water,a further sound signal will be made at 4 minutes, 1 minute and at the start.
6.0 Course
6.1 The course will be from the start,leaving Rangitoto and Motutapu Island to starboard and then to the finish.
7.0 The Finish
7.1 The finish will be the same asthe start line. You will be required to take and record your own finishing timeand text to 021 500571 when reasonably practical.
7.2 This race is designated a noextras race. No spinnakers, gennakers or extras may be set. Headsails may beboomed out but shall only be carried on a permanent load bearing forestay withonly one headsail per forestay.
8.0 RadioCommunication
8.1 All radio communicationsbetween the competitors shall be via VHF channel 77.
9.0 Time Limits
9.1 1700.
10.0 Prizes
10.1 Prizes will be awarded for first on line, and first, second andthird on handicap at the NZMHYC summer prize giving.
11.0 Disclaimer ofLiability
11.1 Competitors participate in the race entirely at their own risk. SeeRRS4 “Decision to race”. Theorganising authority will not accept any liability for material damage,personal injury or death sustained in connection with or prior to, during orafter the race.
12.0 Cancellation
12.1 The organisers reserve the right to cancel the race in the event ofconditions on the day. In the event of Metservice issuing a forecast at 0800 on18 September for the Hauraki Gulf with wind conditions preceded by a strongwind advisory or stronger postponement is likely. Competitors will be contacted(provided they have supplied the contact details with entry) no later than 080018 September in the event of cancellation. An Alternate day 25 September hasbeen set aside to run the race.
